He was the devoted husband of Margaret (Borbas) for 67 wonderful years.
Born on the family farm in Washington Township (Bangor), PA, on February 18, 1923. He was the son of the late Sandor (Alex) and Mary (Szikra) Nagy.
He was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church, Easton, PA. He also was a member of the American Legion and Dyle E. Bray – VFW Post 739, both of Bangor.
He served three years in the U.S. Army 586th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in Africa, Hawaii, and Okinawa as a Military Police escort and construction equipment operator during WWII.
After the war, he returned to work at Bethlehem Steel, then worked at Alpha Portland Cement, Ingersoll Rand Corp, and retired from Mack Printing Company, Easton, PA with 20 years of service. He was a master plumber and jack-of-all-trades who enjoyed helping many family, neighbors, and friends. He faithfully tended to his vegetable garden each year and was always fixing or improving things around his house and for others. Andrew loved to travel all over the United States with Margaret in their motor home. He was a loving father to his two children and caring grandfather to his three grandchildren. He was the master war storyteller and would share his stories with anyone who would listen. Andrew had a passion for life, enjoying parties, social events, and trips to the Country Buffet. He had the ultimate good heart, would do anything to help anyone, and was the family patriarch.
Surviving, in addition to his loving wife, Margaret, are a daughter, Carol Smith, wife of Stewart Smith, of Nazareth, PA; a son, Andrew J. Nagy Jr. and his wife, Philomena, of Bangor; sister, Irene Schlough, of Bangor; grandchildren, Michelle Smith Shafer, wife of William F. Shafer, III, of Bethlehem, PA, Shannon Nagy of Austin, TX, and Andrew J. Nagy, III, of Bangor; sisters-in-law, Magdaline Bolla and Olga Borbas of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Blunt, Mary Nagy, and brothers, Alex, James, William, and Albert.
Services will be held at the James J. Palmeri Funeral Home, 6602 Alpha Ave., Martins Creek, PA, on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with The Rev. R. C. Smith officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday 10 AM until time of service. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Martins Creek, PA.
